Types of wood finish

There are a number of wood floor finishes available that have their own advantages and disadvantages. A wood finish be it a clear or coloured (pigmented) stain has two key objectives. Firstly to present the floor to it’s owner with a beautiful finish. The application of a wood finish product will in most cases bring out the natural beauty of the wood, it’s character and grain emphasized in a positive way.

Secondly the wood floor oil or lacquer is applied in order to preserve that natural beauty, to ensure that is durable to prevent normal everyday wear and tear and to enable practical cleaning and maintenance to be carried out with ease.

The wood finish product must protect the wood flooring board from wear, dirt and moisture. Modern technology now offers us a wide selection of wood flooring finishes, each with its own distinct benefits and appearances. Please see the other pages in this section above for further detail on this topic.
