Wastage allowance

Begin by checking all the boards and inspecting for damage - and weeding out any undesirable boards, for example those with excessive rustic knots etc.

In some grades occasional boards may have a large knot or natural crack. Remove these and put them to one side and later cut out and discard the unwanted sections. The remaining portions can be used at the start or end of each run of flooring by the wall.

This is all part of the 5-10% wastage allowance factor - you should end up with waste boards full of unwanted floorboard off-cuts.

Also, open several packs together so that a good mix of colour, shade and grading can be achieved across the whole floor.
