About Engineered Wood Floors

Engineered wood floors are manufactured using a top layer of real hardwood with a layered base made up from either 3 or 5 layers. The base can comprise of plywood, softwood, or even an HDF board, and the top veneer of hardwood typically ranging from between 3-4mm in thickness.

Engineered wood floors provide all the beauty and charm of a solid wood floor with excellent dimensional stability and versatility. Because the top layer of hardwood is attached to a layered ply base, this eliminates the expansion and contraction that a solid wood floor is prone to.

Many consumers choose engineered wood floors over solid wood floors because it is very versatile when it comes to installation. Not only is it suitable to stick down using an elastic adhesive, you can also float the floor down onto a wood flooring underlay, and engineered wood floors are ideal to use in conjunction with under floor heating.

Engineered wood floors are also a very popular choice with the DIY customer, as the easy click-fit system makes installing the floor incredibly simple.

Engineered wood floors are available in a huge range of different species, finishes, and widths. Engineered 3 strip flooring, offers real wood floors at exceptional value. It would take a flooring expert to tell the difference between a single plank engineered board, and solid wood floor once installed.

Engineered wood floors come in a variety of widths, but most planks are either 148mm or 189mm wide, and in total engineered wood floors tend to be 14/15mm thick. Oiled and lacquered finishes are the most popular, but distressing, handscraping, wire brushing and staining are all available options when purchasing an engineered wood floor.

Another great way of getting exactly the floor you want is to go for an unfinished engineered wood floor, and once it’s installed you can stain, oil or lacquer for the perfect finish.

Simply Stunning

Hardwood flooring looks simply stunning in any home, but not everyone finds it that practical. It can sometimes be expensive, must be nailed / bonded to the sub floor and is more susceptible to expansion and contraction issues, but now there's an alternative that still lets you enjoy the same style and elegance as traditional hardwood - engineered hardwood flooring.

What is engineered hardwood flooring?

Engineered wood floors look exactly the same as regular wood flooring, but this particular version has a different structure that makes it more practical, economic and versatile. Engineered wood floors are manufactured by having a top layer of hardwood (or a “veneer” that's roughly 3-4mm in thickness) that's placed onto a layered base that's comprised of plywood, softwood or HDF board for additional stability and practicality. This is just the beginning when it comes to engineered hardwood flooring - there are a variety of different engineered hardwood floors to choose from, ensuring you'll get the perfect look to your home.

Why choose engineered wood floors?

There are a number of reasons that you might want to choose engineered wood floors over its more traditional counterpart, the first of which being its ease of installation. Engineered wood flooring can be easily stuck down using elastic adhesive, but engineered oak flooring also works well when being placed onto wooden flooring underlay. This makes engineered wood floors perfect for the DIY enthusiast as they can be installed by anyone, with the easy click-fit system of many engineered hardwood floors making installation a breeze.

Then there's the versatility and practicality of engineered oak flooring. Engineered hardwood floors look stunning in any room in the house, and their structure also makes engineered wood flooring perfect for use with underfloor heating. Then there's the fact that the structure of engineered hardwood floors gives greater dimensional stability and reduces the level of expansion and contraction, so once your engineered wood flooring is in place there's nothing left to do but admire it. And let's not forget that engineered wood flooring looks just as beautiful as its solid counterpart - with so many reasons to choose engineered wood flooring, why not invest?
