About wood flooring underlay

When installing your new wood floor, the underlay can determine the success and durability of your new product's life span. There are different types of wood flooring underlay for different types of installation, sound, heat or moisture insulation quality. There are also different types of underlay for the different type of flooring being installed.

Wood flooring underlay can now be used when installing every type of flooring. It’s most common use will be when installed in conjunction with an engineered wood floor. This allows the floor to be floated down onto the underlay. The same installation method can be used when installing solidengineered wood floors.

Solid wood floors can now be installed with adhesive underlays, specifically designed to be used with solid wood floor boards. There is also a good selection of underlays which are designed to be used with underfloor heating, which allow the heat to pass through quickly and evenly distributed.

Moisture barriers are also a very common feature in wood floor underlays. Allowing moisture to get into your floor boards can completely wreck the entire floor.

About our wood flooring underlay ranges

Foam underlay

Our foam underlay ranges are composed from lightweight closed cell polyethylene foam which is 100% recyclable. They offer excellent thermal and sound insulating properties. Ranging from 2mm – 7mm in thickness, these underlays are suitable for floating down engineered, solidengineered, and laminate wood floors, and most come with a moisture barrier.

Damp-proof underlay

Our damp-proof wood floor underlay products are specifically designed to protect flooring against moisture, and all the underlays in this section contain some type of moisture barrier. The pro-tech is a very popular option as it is laminated on one side with a full 1000 gauge damp-proof membrane, and has an integrated overlap and self adhesive strip to provide the ultimate protection against moisture migration from the subfloor. The wood flooring underlays in this section are all suitable for floating down engineered, solid engineered and laminate wood flooring.

Sound-proof rubber underlay

The wood flooring underlay products in this section are made from high density rubber, and offer the very best in sound proofing insulation and reduce in room and impact noise. These wood floor underlays range from 2mm – 5.35mm, and are suitable for floating down engineered, solidengineered, and laminate floors.

Insulation underlay

The insulating boards in this section offer exceptional thermal insulation (2.15 Togs), making them ideal to use on cold floors, cellars etc. The boards are made from light weight polystyrene and are suitable for floating down engineered and solidengineered wood floor boards. These boards also offer excellent impact sound and walking noise reduction, high weight resistance and effective moisture protection.

Adhesive underlay

These adhesive underlays are specifically designed to be used in conjunction with solid wood floors. They have an adhesive coating on one side covered with a peelable protective film. This vastly improves the installation time of solid wood floors, compared to traditional nailing or gluing methods.

Underfloor heating underlay

The wood flooring underlay products in this section are specifically designed to be used with under floor heating. The Quick Therm underlay is composed from very dense lightweight closed cell polyethylene foam. It is a unique perforated underlay which has been specially developed to offer maximum heat transfer.
