Update your Hallway

The hallway is the first part of the house you and your visitors see when coming in through the front door. Therefore, it makes a very big impression, as well as saying a lot about the rest of your home décor. If you’re thinking of redesigning or redecorating the hallway in your house, then seriously think about wood flooring and all the traffic that will be hardwearing and easy to clean.

This takes up the largest area in the hallway, so it needs to be perfect. You can also design the rest of the space with the flooring as a stylish starting point. For a more relaxed, welcoming feel, wood flooring in golden or deep warm tones would be perfect.

Complement a rich and luxurious colour scheme, such as this exotic plum feature wall, with dark wooden floors. A deep, polished glow adds a touch of glamour to a traditional hallway and pairs well with black gloss furniture. Distressed painted floorboards add a subtle wash of colour in large, airy hallways. When paired with planters and wooden furniture, this pale green colour gives the room a conservatory-like feel. Make a style statement in your hallway by mixing the finishes of flooring in different areas. We love the mix of original boards, painted steps and wallpaper-covered stair risers in this modern hallway. Develop a Scandinavian feel in your hall - complement light, airy spaces with pale blond parquet flooring. Slightly more unusual than floorboards, a parquet floor looks refreshingly modern in a clean, white room. Set against a modern white background, oak panelling and beams, give a hallway a welcoming, country-style feel which is complimented with slightly darker wood.

Hallway flooring and entryway flooring in particular should set the tone for a home while still maintaining durability for heavy foot traffic. Hardwood flooring can achieve these divergent effects. Comprised of wood planks, hardwood floors come in a variety of options. Waxed finished appearances are perhaps the most prevalent. A more modern option is derived from cork oak trees, and this cork flooring is praised for its durability and insulation capacities.

Real wood is not essential for a wooden appearance, however. The thin, pressed material of laminate flooring mimics the look and durability of wooden flooring. Computer technology creates the appearance, as digital images of wood patterns are imprinted on the surface material. This option for hallway flooring also complements most other flooring types, as it comes in many varieties ranging from smooth to texture. Laminate flooring may be affixed to the floor by gluing or snap-and-lock features.
