Many customers expect a perfectly even distribution of sizes in every box, but in reality, the industry works to a different set of standards. Understanding how random length flooring is graded, packed, and supplied can help you set realistic expectations and make a more informed decision.

What Does “Random Length” Mean?
Random length wood flooring refers to boards that are supplied in a variety of lengths within a specified range — for example, 400mm to 1500mm. Rather than every board being identical, the lengths are mixed to create a more natural and visually appealing floor once installed.

This variation is intentional. It reflects the natural characteristics of timber and allows manufacturers to make efficient use of raw materials while maintaining structural quality.

Industry Expectations and Tolerances
In the flooring industry, random length does not mean that every box will contain the full range of sizes. Instead, the standard expectation is:

• The overall batch (not individual boxes) will fall within the advertised length range
• There is no guaranteed distribution of specific lengths within each pack
