Wooden flooring

Engineered wood flooring is manufactured using a top layer of real hardwood with either a three ply or multi-ply base. The base can comprise plywood, softwood or even a HDF board, with the top veneer of hardwood typically ranging between 3-6mm in thickness.

Engineered wood floors provide all the beauty and charm of a solid wood floor with excellent dimensional stability and versatility. Because the top layer of hardwood is attached to a layered ply base, this reduces the expansion and contraction that a solid wood floor is prone to. Once installed, there is no visual difference between a single plank engineered board and a solid wood floor.

Many of our customers choose engineered wood flooring over solid wood floors because it is very versatile when it comes to installation. Not only is it suitable to stick down using an elastic adhesive such as Sikabond, you can also float the floor onto a wooden flooring underlay - and engineered wood floors are also ideal to use in conjunction with under floor heating systems. They can also be nailed over joists without any plywood sub-flooring.

Engineered wood panels are also wider and longer than solid planks, and are ideal for areas where solid wood flooring is not suitable, such as over concrete or in basements.
