Important Care & Maintenance Instructions
Important Care & Maintenance Information
Proper care and maintenance will help protect the flooring from staining, scratching, moisture damage and premature wear. Please observe the following recommendations:
- Deal with spills promptly: Wipe up any spillages as soon as possible. Prolonged exposure to moisture can penetrate joints, stain the surface or affect the protective finish.
- Use minimal moisture: When damp cleaning, apply only a light amount of cleaning solution. The floor should never be saturated or left visibly wet after cleaning.
- Keep the floor dry after cleaning: Once damp cleaning has been completed, allow the surface to dry naturally and ensure no standing water remains.
- Remove abrasive debris: Grit, sand and dirt can act like abrasives under footwear and furniture, gradually scratching and dulling the surface. Regular vacuuming or sweeping is therefore essential, particularly in entrance areas.
- Protect high-traffic areas: Consider using suitable entrance mats at external doorways to help prevent grit and moisture from being brought onto the floor. Avoid mats with rubber or latex backings unless they are confirmed as suitable for your particular flooring.
- Use appropriate furniture protection: Fit felt pads or suitable protective glides to the legs of chairs, tables and other furniture. Replace them regularly to ensure they remain clean and effective.
- Take care when moving furniture: Never drag heavy furniture or appliances directly across the floor. Lift items where possible or use appropriate protective moving equipment.
- Avoid unsuitable cleaning products: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, ammonia, steam cleaners or household detergents unless specifically approved for the flooring. These may damage the finish or leave a residue.
- Underfloor heating: See Guidelines for Underfloor Heating
- Follow the correct maintenance regime: Oiled and lacquered floors require different maintenance products. Always use products specifically recommended for the particular floor finish and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Please note: Flooring is a natural or manufactured surface subject to normal wear and tear. Appropriate cleaning, preventative measures and regular maintenance will help preserve its appearance and extend its service life.
